To our valued community, vendors, and supporters,
For almost thirty years, the LACC Swap Meet has been a weekend tradition and a vital part of Los Angeles. Every Saturday and Sunday, our parking lot has been filled with energy, local vendors, and shoppers supporting both small businesses and the LACC Foundation’s mission to help over 17,000 students each year.
Effective immediately, the LACC Swap Meet is now exclusively on Saturdays.
Why this change?
This decision wasn’t made lightly. Since the ICE raids in our area, we’ve worked tirelessly to keep the market open both days. We’ve explored every option, adjusted our operations, and done everything possible to support our vendors and community. Unfortunately, the reality is that attendance and vendor participation have dropped dramatically, and we’ve been losing money every single week.
The overhead to run the market is substantial. We understand the reasons for these changes—many in our community are facing real fears and challenges that are out of our control. We are absolutely powerless over these larger forces. The honest truth is that if we continued as a two-day market, we would have to close the swap meet entirely in the near future.
We also can’t ignore the broader context we’re living in. The climate created by Trump’s hatred and sociopathic behavior has impacted our community in profound ways. While we believe that this kind of leadership and rhetoric will not prevail in the long run, we have to face this unprecedented reality head-on in order to survive and serve our mission.
Pivoting to survive—and to serve
Instead, we’re making a tough but necessary pivot:
- The LACC Swap Meet will now be held exclusively on Saturdays.
- On Sundays, we’re excited to announce the launch of the LACC Flea Market, beginning August 3rd. This new market is an effort to bring in a different type of experience and audience, so we can continue to maintain a vibrant market presence at LACC.
This change is about survival, but also about our mission. Every dollar generated at the swap meet and flea market helps fund scholarships, emergency aid, and resources for thousands of LACC students. There’s a much bigger picture here than just making money—this is about keeping a community institution alive and continuing to support those who depend on us most.
What’s next?
We know this change may be disappointing, and we’re here to answer your questions and support our vendors as best we can. We’re committed to making Saturdays vibrant, welcoming, and successful for everyone involved, and we’re excited for the fresh possibilities the LACC Flea Market will bring on Sundays.
Thank you for your understanding, your resilience, and your support. Together, we can keep the spirit of the LACC Swap Meet alive—and continue making a difference for our community and our students.
With gratitude,
The LACC Swap Meet Team
