We’re considering re-opening the LACC Swap Meet next Saturday, June 28th! We will only open on Saturday, not Sunday!
The decision to open the LACC Swap Meet next Saturday, June 28th, belongs entirely to our vendor community. If a total of 80 booths are purchased (regardless of how many vendors or how many booths each vendor books), the market will open for Saturday only—not Sunday. For example, if one vendor reserves two booths, that counts as two toward the 80-booth total. Please note: credits cannot be used for this market; only paid booth sales count.
It’s completely up to you—if there’s enough interest, the market will open. If not, we will hold out for as long as possible until the ICE Raids leave our city.
How it works:
- Complete the form below by Monday, 11 PM.
- If we reach our goal, I’ll announce on Tuesday that we’ll open for vendors and shoppers this Saturday, June 28th!
With regards to ICE Raids:
We have seen no activity in the Los Feliz/East Los Angeles area yesterday or today—unless there’s something we’re unaware of. We originally thought we could protect everyone by not allowing ICE Agents in, but after what happened at Santa Fe Springs, we now know we are powerless over these illegal raids. Here’s what we will do:
- We have people outside the swap meet on radios, keeping a lookout for ICE.
- If there’s any sign, we will immediately lock down as much as we can to slow these masked agents from entering easily.
- We will have designated locations to secure against entry, as they are NOT PERMITTED to enter private offices.
We are grateful for the support shown for our decision not to open this weekend (June 21 & 22), and we understand the financial and emotional hardship that came with it. We made the decision to keep our community safe and we stand by it, but now we leave it up to you, our vendors, to make the call.
We want to be transparent about what it takes to keep the LACC Swap Meet running. Due to our high operating expenses, we must reach at least 80 paid bookings for this Saturday, June 28th, in order to open. “Paid” bookings are essential—without them, we simply can’t cover the costs of maintaining this long-standing community event.
Important Note:
- Vendor store credits will not be accepted for the June 28th Swap Meet. You are welcome to use your store credits for any future dates.
- It’s no secret that illegal street vending in the “immediate vicinity” of the swap meet is a serious issue. This is a direct violation of the Settlement Agreement, which clearly states that no selling is permitted near the swap meet. Unfortunately, since I took over, we have never sold out, largely due to these illegal vendors, who are not held accountable by our so-called councilman, Hugo Soto-Martinez. His focus seems to be anywhere but on supporting our legitimate vendors inside the swap meet.
- I want to assure you that we are actively addressing this issue, and it will be brought to court soon. We are committed to protecting your interests and the future of the swap meet.
Rumors:
- There have been some rumors circulating about ICE agents showing up at the LACC Swap Meet and the event being closed indefinitely. I want to clarify that these statements are not true. I was present at the swap meet and can confirm that no ICE agents were there.
- The swap meet is not closed indefinitely. We are simply taking extra precautions and plan to re-open carefully.
Thank you for your support,
Phillip Dane
