A Message to Our Valued Vendors – Honesty and Integrity at the Core of the LACC Swap Meet

At the LACC Swap Meet, we take immense pride in fostering a vibrant, supportive, and thriving community for our vendors, customers, and the LACC Foundation. For over 20 years, we have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this market, which directly supports over 17,000 students annually. Every admission fee, every booth rental, and every purchase contributes to this mission.
However, we must address a deeply concerning issue that has come to our attention.
Recently, we have discovered that some vendors have been misusing discount codes or booking spaces under another person’s account to avoid paying their booth fees. Let us be unequivocally clear: this behavior is not only dishonest, but it also undermines the integrity of the entire swap meet.
The True Cost of Dishonesty
While some may think that using a coupon code to book spaces at no cost is harmless, the reality is far from it. This behavior directly impacts:
- The Market: It creates an unfair playing field for other honest vendors who follow the rules and pay their booth fees.
- All Vendors: Such actions force us to consider increasing booth rates to make up for lost revenue, which is unfair to those who operate with integrity.
- The LACC Foundation: Every dollar stolen is a dollar taken away from the 17,000 students who rely on the funds raised by the swap meet.
This behavior is disheartening and unacceptable. It is stealing—not just from us, but from the community at large.
Our Response and Commitment
We are conducting an internal investigation into this matter. Vendors found engaging in this illegal activity will face serious consequences, which may include:
– Permanent removal from the swap meet.
– Financial penalties.
– Potential legal action.
We deeply regret having to address this issue, but it is our responsibility to protect the integrity of the LACC Swap Meet and the community it supports.
